This list only serves as a guide to the types of plants and flowers from which you should keep your dog away. It is by no means exhaustive.

Aloe Vera

• Symptoms: Vomiting, depression, diarrhea, anorexia, tremors a nd change in urine color (red).

 

Amaryllis

• Symptoms: Vomiting, depression, diarrhea, abdominal pain, hyper salivation, anorexia, tremors. large ingestions cause convulsions, low blood pressure, tremors and cardiac arrhythmias. Bulbs are the most poisonous part.

 

Arrow-Head Vine

• Symptoms: Oral irritation, intense burning and irritation of mouth, tongue and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting, difficulty swallowing.

 

Alocasia

• Symptoms: Oral irritation, intense burning and irritation of mouth tongue and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting, difficulty swallowing.

 

Branching Ivy

• Symptoms: Vomiting, abdominal pain, hypersalivation, diarrhea. Foliage is more toxic than berries.

 

Baby’s Breath

• Symptoms: Vomiting, diarrhea.

Chrysanthemum

• Symptoms: Vomiting, diarrhea, hyper salivation, dermatitis.

 

Cornstalk Plant

• Symptoms: Vomiting (occasionally with blood), depression, anorexia, hyper salivation.

 

Dumbcane

• Symptoms: Oral irritation, intense burning and irritation of mouth , tongue and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting, difficulty swallowing.

 

Everlasting Pea

• Symptoms: Weakness, lethargy, pacing, head pressing, tremors, seizures and possibly death.

 

Hibiscus

• Symptoms: Vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, anorexia.

 

Hyacinth

• Symptoms: Intense vomiting, diarrhea, occassionally with blood, depression and tremors.

 

Morning Glory

• Symptoms: Gastrointestinal upset, agitation, tremors, disorientation, ataxia, anorexia, hallucinations.

 

Oleander

• Symptoms: Colic, diarrhea (possibly bloody), sweating, in coordination, shallow/difficult breathing, muscle tremors, recumbence, slow heart beat and possibly death from cardiac failure. All parts contain a highly toxic cardiac glycoside and can cause a number of problems.

 

Tulip/Narcissus

• Symptoms: Intense gastrointestinal irritation, drooling, loss of appetite, depression of the central nervous system, convulsions and cardiac abnormalities.

 

Yew

• Symptoms: Central nervous system effects such as trembling, incoordination, and difficulty breathing. It can also cause significant gastrointestinal irritation and cardiac failure, which can result in death.
